:DSupport youth media makers in Detroit! DONATE HERE.
Hey all.
The Road to the Allied Media Fundraiser is only going to be running for about another 28 hours. So I wanted to make one master post with links to all the posts about the fundraiser! There is also brief testimonies from two youth, one who is in Detroit and *doing* the fundraising, and the other is from a youth who has *previously* fundraised to get *his* community to the Allied Media Conference!
This has all be SO exciting to me—I’ve done fundraising for myself before, never for anybody else, I’ve been SO thrilled to see how receptive tumblr has been to youth media makers in Detroit!!! When I first mentioned this on tumblr, the youth had raised $1485—today they’re sitting at $2848!!!! I think with one last push, we tumblrers may even be able to get them past the $3000 mark!!!!
I want to say thank you to the anonymous that matched my donation, and a HUGE thank you to all the tumbler folks that reblogged my relentless reblogging—and to anybody who donated!
LET’S PUSH IT DOWN THIS FINAL 24 HOURS!!! I KNOW WE CAN DO THIS!!!!!
And if you need a reason why to donate, check out the AWESOME TRANSFORMATIVE work these youth are doing in Detroit below!!!!!
THANK YOU!!!!!!
Testimony:
I’m reblogging this because I’m a part of one of the organizations responsible for planning to send 60 Detroit youth to the Allied Media Conference. There is real life happening here in the D, and it’s good - but it ain’t free. So you should totally help support youth leadership, and justice in the D by donating here.
ALSO CAN I JUST SAY THAT I’M SO EXCITED TO SEE THIS JUST RANDOMLY POP UP ON MY DASH.

More testimony:
As a youth who did fundraising and worked hard to get my group of 8 folx to go to the Allied Media Conference, I know it is CRAAAZY hard. I know that it was also a beautiful experience to see a place like Detroit, and to be able to see how issues play out differently there than where I am from, which is Oakland. I know what it’s like to want to go to something to make your voice heard, and to need the support from the communities around you, near and far. So I support and will donate to these youth, and you should too!
PLEASE HELP IN ANY WAY YOU CAN!!!!

The Dominican Republic plans to start penalizing all companies that hire illegal workers under a new labor regulation that has sparked anger among the Caribbean country’s estimated 1 million Haitian residents.
wat is it with all these brown countries adapting all the RACIST immigration policies…ugh
cause when i woke up it was true.
i had this dream that one of my white teachers was wearing a headdress. and she was encouraging all of us to go buy one. i was horrified. and i started to explain to one of my friends why its disgusting and disrespectful for any of us to wear one with out deserving the honor.
i think wat triggered this was the fact that i found out yesterday that a store in the mall i work in, which was owned by native americans and sold beautiful cultural items got closed down.
meanwhile Forever 21 still selling sorry ass imitations of these cultural items for white girls to buy.
like forreal? poc cant benefit from anything.
the fact that this store was owned by native americans was so important. the profits and credits will go directly to them and they would choose wtf is alright for u to buy/wear.
but no. we cant have that.

^^^^^^ LOL. LOVE. YOU.
If I owned a business this would pretty much be my business model.
White privilege is being able to say “it’s just a song/movie/tv show/joke” and ignore the implicit and explicit racism that PoC find inescapable.
